Omega Mart Grocery is an Indonesian and Asian grocery in Sydney. If you grew up with these flavours, you'll find the brands you already know. If you're new to Indonesian cooking, this guide shows you what's on our shelves and where to start.

What's on the shelves

Sambal (chilli sauce)

This is our biggest range. You'll find pourable bottles like ABC Sambal Asli for everyday use, jars from Cap Ibu, Finna and Hellyeah, and regional styles like sambal bawang, sambal ijo and sambal terasi. Not sure which to buy? Start with our Sambal 101 guide.

Kecap (soy sauce)

Kecap manis is a thick, sweet soy sauce. Indonesian home cooking relies on it for nasi goreng, mie goreng and sate marinades. We stock Bango Kecap Manis and ABC Kecap Manis, plus a spicy version, ABC Kecap Manis Pedas. For salty soy (kecap asin), try Kambing Kembar Kecap Asin.

Instant noodles

We carry dozens of Indomie flavours, plus Mie Sedaap, Super Bihun and BLT kwetiau. Many of them are hard to find in mainstream supermarkets. See our instant noodle guide for the ones worth trying.

Spices and pastes

Shrimp paste (terasi) and candlenuts (kemiri) go into a lot of Indonesian spice pastes. Pick up Mama Suka Terasi Udang and Nice Kemiri, or ready-made bumbu (spice mixes) from brands like Sasa, Kobe and Bamboe when you want dinner without the grinding.

Coconut milk and cream

For curries, rendang, opor and desserts: Kara Coconut Cream 200ml for one dish, or Sasa Santan 1L when you're cooking for a crowd.

Kerupuk and emping

No Indonesian plate feels finished without something crunchy on the side. Try Awan Kerupuk 988 Palembang fish crackers or O Kriuk Emping Melinjo.

Coffee

Indonesian ground coffee is brewed by stirring the grounds straight into hot water and letting them settle (kopi tubruk). Kapal Api Special and Kapal Api Lampung are good places to start.

Add day-old rice, shallots, garlic, an egg and whatever protein you have. That's dinner.
